Material: wood

Dimensions: cm 104 x cm 16 x cm 9

Country of origin: Burkina Faso

Splendid Karanga African mask of the Mossi population of Burkina Faso, depicting a snake in its elegant and highly stylized forms like all the zoomorphic masks of the Mossi.
The mask featured several holes along the oval of the face that were used to attach the raffia or leaves costume that covered the dancer wearing the mask. The hole at the bottom has a wear fracture due to the attachment of the costume.
Unique piece.
Curious Note: the dancer wearing this type of African mask dances with a slightly swaying movement to simulate the movement of the snake.
