African mask of the Baule population called “kplekple”.
This type of African mask is one of many that appears during the Goli ceremony. Goli is a one-day show which normally involves the whole town and involves the appearance of four pairs of masks (male-female), worn by dancers, music played on special instruments and the ideal consumption of a large quantity of palm wine. The four groups of dancers are symbols of the structure of society and of the interrelationships between men and women. The kplekple masks represent the young male and are exhibited before the appearance of the more prominent masks.
Unique piece.
