CIRCLE RUG – CTP521

300,00

Materials: sheep’s wool

Dimensions: diameter 164 cm  (approximately 5,4 ft)

Country of origin: Kyrgyzstan

Circle rug called Shyrdak made entirely by hand in Kyrgyzstan by artisan women who, following ancient techniques, keep this centuries-old tradition of the country alive.

The circle rug consists of two layers of wool felt. The upper layer features Kyrgyz decorative motifs in dark brown and light ecru colors. The braided cord (jeek) around the designs is white. The second layer of felt, which creates the base of the Shyrdak, is made of a stronger wool than the top layer. This wool gives a rigid shape to the carpet and has excellent insulating properties.

The decorative motif of this Shyrdak felt rug is the hearth (Kolomto), which is a symbol of life, unity and friendliness. “Kolomto otu ochposun” (may the hearth not go out), the Kyrgyz say to the newlyweds. This beautiful circle rug makes a wonderful gift for the newlyweds or for the housewarming.

Unique piece.
