Kuba Decorative Pillows

Kuba decorative pillows are made with draperies from the territory of Kuba, a vast region of the Democratic Repubblic of Congo where lives a tribal confederation of a dozen different peoples.

The fabrics are woven by men with palm tree fibers and decorated by women with different techniques ranging from embroidery to painting, applying fabric, seashells or other materials.

In the past Kuba african textiles were regarded as prestigious objects and used as dressings in the most important cerimonies, such as wedding gifts or currency. Picasso, Klee and Matisse possessed large collections of these fabrics.

The cushions made with these fabrics have a surprisingly modern and up-to-date look. But despite the strong graphics and abstract and geometric motifs that characterize them, they fit perfectly not only in modern and minimalist furnishings, but also in more classic and country furnishings.
