Handira – Moroccan Wedding Blankets

Traditionally the “Handira” is a wedding blanket, handmade by Berber women of the High Atlas in Morocco as a family gift for the bride to wish her happiness, fertility and protection against evil. On her wedding day the bride wears the blanket like a cape on her way to the groom’s house.

Moroccan wedding blankets are usually woven in naturally dyed wool and cotton, and decorated with geometric patterns, fringes or hair bands, and finished with metal sequins that sparkle and make a sweet sound.

Magnificent, not only as bedspreads, but also to decorate a wall, dress a sofa or use as carpets.
