Bogolan – African Mud Cloth Throws

They are handmade made from wonderful african mud cloth fabrics called Bogolan (or Bogolanfini), typical of some populations of West Africa, especially Mali.

The word Bogolan means “made of mud” and in fact the decorations on the fabric are obtained using fermented mud, through a procedure dating back to the 12th century, very long and complex.

The fabric is 100% cotton, first spun by hand and then woven by hand, usually by men on narrow looms, finally decorated by women with mud.

Fantastic examples of African art.
